Why Clubs Across Australia Use Club Captain

Every year, thousands of Australian sports clubs miss out on grant funding — not because they don't qualify, but because nobody had the time, the knowledge, or the confidence to put together a strong application. Grant writing is a skill. It takes experience to know what assessors are looking for, how to frame a community impact story, and how to structure a budget that gets approved.

Club Captain's grant support service exists specifically for grassroots Australian sports clubs. We've helped over 65 clubs secure funding across the country — from small local councils to state government programs — and we work with clubs in every sport, every state, and every size.

Unlike traditional grant writers who charge flat fees of $600 to $7,000 per application regardless of outcome, our model is built entirely around your success. There is no upfront cost. For equipment grants, you simply purchase through Club Captain when you win. For building and infrastructure grants, we take a 10% success fee — only if your application is approved.

We don't write the application and hand it over. We review and strengthen what you've built — because you know your club's story better than anyone, and that story is what wins grants. Our job is to make sure it's told in a way that assessors respond to, structured correctly, and submitted on time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything clubs ask before getting started.

Simple — if your club needs equipment (line markers, scoreboards, sporting goods, nets, batting cages, facility gear), it's Option 1 and there are no fees at all. If you're applying for a building or infrastructure project that Club Captain can't supply directly, it's Option 2 with a 10% success fee on wins only. Not sure? Tell us on the call and we'll work it out together in five minutes.

No. For equipment grants (Option 1) there are no fees whatsoever — you simply purchase through Club Captain when the grant is approved. For building and infrastructure grants (Option 2) you pay nothing unless your application is successful and funding is confirmed. If you don't win, you don't owe us anything.

We review your application against the specific grant criteria, identify any gaps, tighten the narrative, and make sure the community impact is clearly communicated in a way assessors respond to. For equipment grants, we prepare a formal itemised quote at the same time. You then review the finished application and submit it yourself — you always remain in control of your application and your relationship with the grant body.

Grant availability changes throughout the year and varies by state. At any given time there are typically federal government programs, state sporting grants, and local council community grants open simultaneously. The best way to find out what's available for your specific club right now is to book the free call — we'll tell you exactly what's open, what you'd be eligible for, and which ones we'd back you to win.

Most government grant programs require your club to have an ABN and be incorporated as an association. If you don't have these yet, we can point you in the right direction to get set up — it's more straightforward than most clubs expect. Once you're incorporated and have an ABN, the majority of state and local government sporting grants become available to you.

Absolutely — and this is actually one of the most common situations we work with. Missing out on a grant round doesn't mean your club isn't fundable. It usually means the application wasn't framed the way assessors wanted to see it, the community impact wasn't clearly communicated, or the wrong grant was targeted for the project. We can look at what you submitted previously and identify exactly what needs to change before you apply again.

Yes. Most sporting grants specifically fund equipment purchases and we provide a formal itemised quote through Club Captain as part of the application process. Having a verified supplier quote strengthens your submission — assessors want to see that the funding will be spent on real, confirmed purchases. When your grant is approved, your equipment order is ready to go.

We work with clubs right across Australia — Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, ACT, and the Northern Territory. Grant programs vary by state so the specific opportunities we'd identify for your club will depend on where you're based. Sporting grants in Victoria, NSW, and Queensland tend to have the highest volume of available programs given the population, but every state has genuine funding opportunities for clubs.
