View full detailsThe right basketball equipment depends on who is using it, how often, and what kind of surface and space you're working with. Here's what to consider before you buy.
Fixed vs portable towers. Fixed towers are permanently concreted into the ground and are the right choice for high-traffic venues like school gyms, community courts and club facilities. They're more stable, more durable and require less ongoing maintenance than portable systems. Portable systems are better suited to home courts, driveways or training environments where the hoop needs to move or be stored.
Single, double or 4-way configuration. A single tower suits a standard half-court or training setup. A double tower (two backboards, one post) is ideal for full-court play and is common in school gymnasiums. A 4-way tower serves four courts simultaneously from one central structure โ popular with facilities that run large-scale junior competitions or after-school programs.
Reversible basketball and netball towers. If your facility runs both basketball and netball, a reversible tower gives you two sports from one set of foundations. This is particularly cost-effective for schools and councils with shared courts. See our dedicated reversible basketball and netball tower collection for the full range.
Outreach and overhang. Outreach refers to how far the backboard extends from the pole. Standard outreach is 1.2m to 1.8m. Greater outreach is required for courts where the post must sit outside the playing area. If you're installing on an existing court with specific boundary constraints, measure your available space before ordering and contact us for guidance.
Height adjustment. For junior players, height-adjustable systems are important for correct technique development. Our youth and portable systems offer adjustment ranges suitable for players from 6 years and up through to full adult height at 3.05m.
Grant purchasing. Fixed towers and multi-court infrastructure are commonly funded through local government, school infrastructure and sporting facility grants in Australia. We can provide quotes, product datasheets and installation specifications to support your application. Visit The Grant Playbook for more information on available funding.
The standard basketball ring height in Australia is 3.05 metres (10 feet), which is consistent with Basketball Australia and FIBA regulations. This applies to senior competition at all levels. For junior development, many schools and clubs use height-adjustable systems that can be set lower โ typically between 1.8m and 2.6m โ to match the age and size of younger players.
For residential or backyard installations, council approval is generally not required unless the structure exceeds certain height thresholds or is installed close to property boundaries โ this varies by council and state. For public land, school grounds or shared sporting facilities, approval from the relevant authority (council, school principal, facility manager) is required before installation. We recommend confirming approval with your local council or facilities team before placing an order for a fixed tower.
Yes. Fixed basketball towers are installed by core-drilling into the existing surface and setting the post in concrete. This works on both asphalt and concrete courts. The exact installation method depends on the depth and condition of the existing surface. We recommend using a qualified installer โ contact us and we can advise on installation requirements for your specific product.
A fixed basketball tower is permanently installed into the ground and cannot be moved. It is the most stable and durable option for ongoing use at a club, school or public facility. A portable basketball system uses a base that is filled with water or sand for ballast and can be wheeled between locations. Portable systems are best suited to home courts, driveways or venues where permanent installation is not possible or permitted.
Outreach (sometimes called overhang) is the horizontal distance from the front of the pole to the centre of the backboard. A 1.2m outreach means the backboard sits 1.2 metres in front of the post. More outreach is needed when the post must be positioned outside the playing area to keep the court boundary clear. Standard club and school installations typically use between 1.2m and 1.8m outreach.
Yes. We provide formal quotes for clubs, schools and councils purchasing basketball equipment through grant programs or council procurement processes. Quotes include product pricing, shipping estimates and, where required, product specifications. Submit your details via our quote request page and we'll turn it around quickly.
Delivery times vary by product and your location within Australia. Portable hoops and smaller accessories typically ship within a few business days. Fixed towers and large structures may have longer lead times depending on stock availability. Contact us before ordering if you have a deadline โ we'll confirm current lead times and availability for your specific product.
